, Alma K. (Balish), Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2012 at the age of 92. Alma was born September 7, 1920 in Yarmouth, NS to the late Charles and Eva (Nickerson) Balish. During the depression, the family moved to Lockeport. She lived there until she married in 1945 and moved to BC, where she lived for 32 years. While living in BC, Alma worked in the business world for several years and then did full time volunteer work. In 1970, she started painting and studied under such well known artists as Aeron McBride, Bill Alexander and Jerry Anastacio among others. Her preferred medium was oils and she is remembered for her beautiful flowers and seascapes. In 1977, Alma and her husband Bob, moved to Nova Scotia and settled in Hebbville where she opened studio 4. in 1988 she opened the first miniature art gallery in the Atlantic Provinces in Gold River. Alma was a member of the South Shore Regional hospital Auxiliary, Lunenburg Art Gallery, DesBrisay Museum and the Veterans Club. Alma lived life to the fullest with great passion, enthusiasm and joy. She fulfilled many plans and dreams of supporting different organizations with gifts of art. Alma is predeceased by her husband Robert; sisters Marilyn in infancy, Anita Schell (Fraser); brothers Alex (Barbara West), Harold (Winnifred Hines). She is survived by sister Carol Ann Conrad (David), Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00am Wednesday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Father Jim MacDonald OMI Officiating. Reception will follow the service in the Church Hall. Private Family Interment. In Lieu of flowers, memorial Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater or Charity of your choice.
