Beazley, Cynthia Jean (nee Swim), age 78 of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully July 19, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital.
Born in Sandy Point, Shelburne County, NS, June 11, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Jean (Coffin) Swim.
Cindy is survived by son Ryan (Michelle); daughter Jana; grandsons Caiden and Thatcher; sisters Betsy (Charles) Shand and Toni Swim; brother Shaun (Jacquie) Swim; brothers-in-law Richard (Grace) Beazley, Gregg (Cheryl) Kennedy and Larry Giffin; sister-in-law Betty Ann Beazley; many nieces and nephews; and much-loved cats Eeyore and Zorro.
Besides her parents, Cindy was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Wayne, in February; brother-in-law Les Beazley; and sister-in-law Glenna Giffin.
Cindy grew up in Lockeport, NS, which gave her a lifelong love of the ocean. Crescent Beach in Lockeport, and especially Splash Rock, were dear to her heart. She was happiest whenever she could hear waves crashing to the shore. Cindy attended Queen’s University for a year before returning to NS and attending Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax. She eventually became the secretary at Centre Consolidated School, leaving full-time work once Ryan was born. She held several other part-time jobs on and off through the years, most notably sewing for Nova Scotia company Thimble Things, which allowed her to work from home while Ryan and Jana grew up.
Cindy’s knack for sewing was also evident in the many beautiful dresses and dolls she made for Jana as a child and eventually led to a love of quilting. Over the years she made many wall hangings, lap quilts and full-size quilts, often giving them away to family and friends or to charitable causes. She routinely proclaimed that she was done buying fabric because she had more than she could ever use, to which her family rolled their eyes and chuckled, knowing the next week she would see another print she just had to have.
Baking was another one of Cindy’s skills, much to the delight of the lucky recipients of her goods. Her cookies (she always made sure Caiden had his favourite molasses cookies for his birthday and to take back to Acadia with him), birthday cakes, fudge, muffins, squares and pies will be missed by many.
Cindy was always very supportive of Wayne, Ryan and Jana, but she took special delight in her grandsons. She loved holding Caiden as a baby while he slept and blowing bubbles with him as a toddler, and she marvelled at young Thatcher’s energy as he ran circles around the house. She always wanted to learn more about whatever they were interested in, whether that was sports or Pokémon. Eventually Thatcher’s love of Lego rubbed off on her and she started ordering sets for herself, getting excited when the new catalogue arrived in the mail. Thatcher will take good care of Gramma’s collection.
While not an athlete herself, Cindy took great joy in watching sports, especially curling, figure skating, hockey, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Olympics. She played several word games daily both in the newspaper and online, was an avid reader, and liked to stay up on current events. She was never afraid to state her opinion or speak up for what she believed in (thanks to her Swim heritage!), she asked questions to understand others’ experiences and points of view, and she was always the first to offer help or support to those who needed it, often accompanied by baked goods or something she had sewn.
Think of Cindy whenever you see something purple, enjoy some delectable chocolate (dark, not milk, and never white), cuddle with a purring cat, watch someone opening a gift agonizingly slowly so they can save the wrapping paper, or feel the magic of Santa on Christmas Eve.
The family would like to thank the VON nurses and the doctors and nurses at SSRH who cared for Cindy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON Lunenburg County, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, or a charity of your choice. The family invites friends who would like to pay their respects or share stories to drop by Cindy and Wayne’s house at 155 Desbrisay Drive in Bridgewater on Aug. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. Family gathering to follow.
