It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of
Ethel Geraldine Dauphinee (nee Lohnes), age 93, of Bridgewater NS, on
June 4th, 2026, at SSRH. Born to G. Foster Lohnes and Florence Lohnes
(nee Bolliver) on January 28th, 1933. Ethel was the eldest daughter of
thirteen siblings. From an early age she was shaped into a determined,
hardworking, and self-sacrificing woman. She lived and loved with her
whole heart, giving of herself freely and without reservation. Strong
willed, fiercely independent, and unwaveringly devoted to those she
cared for, she met life’s challenges with resilience and
grace, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she knew. During her
life, she worked at Rofihe’s Menswear and DeMone’s
Jewelers; but you may remember her most from the housewares department
at Gow’s Home Hardware where she worked until retirement.
She loved travelling internationally with her good friend Sandy, as
well as numerous North American bus tours with her friends; she
experienced cultures from every corner of the world. She had many
hobbies throughout her life. She loved nature and enjoyed long walks
along the trails, parks, and local beaches with her friends and
family. She loved sewing, quilting, and knitting – teaching
her daughter and granddaughters the crafts from an early age. For
years, she would donate handknit hats, mittens, baby blankets, and
more to the South Shore Regional Hospital and to the Daisy. She loved
classic country music – listening to her CDs of artists such
as John Denver, Hank Snow, and Alan Jackson. She also enjoyed reading,
often getting lost in a good book for hours. She had an unwavering
love for her children, always there with kindness and compassion, a
hug, or an ear to listen. Her granddaughters, Katie and Emily, were
the lights of her life. She would "steal" them from daycare
when they were young, take them on adventures around town, and was a
constant pillar for them throughout their adult life. Ethel is
predeceased by her eldest son David Dauphinee, grandson Dana
Dauphinee, both parents, and her siblings James Lohnes, Charles
Lohnes, Gordon Lohnes, Edsel Lohnes, Sylvia "Sue" Whynot
(nee Lohnes), and Lucille "Lucy" Selig (nee Lohnes). She
will be dearly missed by her siblings Eldred Lohnes, Bazel Lohnes
(Donna), Faye Ernst (nee Lohnes), Cecil Lohnes (Barbara), Gloria
"Patsy" Veinotte (nee Lohnes), Betty-Jean Snyder (nee
Lohnes)(Brian), her children Michael Dauphinee, Christine Landry (nee
Dauphinee) (Richard), Darren Dauphinee (Joanne), five grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren, her Godson Jamie, and countless nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends. Per request, there will be no funeral
services or visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
your preferred charity.
