Carol Ann (Lonergan) Conrad

1941-2026, 84, Bridgewater, formerly Conquerall Bank, Halifax, Wolfville, Sharon, Massachusetts.

She was a maker and creator, organizer and helper. A lover of berries, baking, ice cream, and making things from fabric, yarn, gardens and cupboards. There was no experience quite like walking up the back stairs to the smell and seeing every flat surface covered in baked goods.

Carol was administrative support in the Vice President’s office at Acadia University before she became a mom and stayed home to raise her family. Over the years, she volunteered with many organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Red Cross, as a Block Parent, bake sales, fundraising dinners, and craft groups. She was a lifelong member of the Girl Guides, serving as a volunteer and Trefoil Guild member. Her crafty creations were also sold to buy everything from canoes to trips abroad for her and Paul.

Carol enjoyed letting the paddle float past her so she could take in the view and let her partner do the work, even saying "rock" after it stopped them. She loved to gab, especially with her closest friends, her mother, and her sister Kay. She had a long calendar list of people from her birthplace in Massachusetts to western Canada and beyond who would receive cards or calls for special occasions.

She and her family were long time campers at Kejimkujik National Park, as well as going on adventures across Canada and through the eastern US. They also spent summers and winters at their Shingle Lake cottage, even if the outhouse seat was frosty. It was here that she went well outside her comfort zone by cross-country skiing, doing woodlot work, and swimming, when she famously dunked fully under on her first attempt in her late 40s. The lake also provided a canvas for her graceful skating, which she would do at any opportunity, and she would beam if she had a partner, much like she did when dancing or square dancing with the LaHave River Ramblers. The lakes were gathering spots for many great meals, games and laughs with many. She also held the family record for the largest fish caught, a record she held since a 1980s rainbow at Keji.

She outlived her parents, Pauline and Clarence, and sister Kay. Carol is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul, children Marcia, Kim and Tim. Grandchildren, Hannah, Josh and Jeffrey, Thomas and Matthew, and Oliver and Adelaide. Great-grandchildren Kilee and Liam.

In Carol’s memory, please give your time or talents to an organization or people, and be kind. Those who also wish to make a cash donation, we appreciate your support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Terry Fox Foundation.

May your needles keep clicking, strawberries be fresh, skates sharpened, Anka playing, and the ice cream bowl be endless.

Cremation has taken place. Messages to the family may be sent at www.corkumfuneralhome.ca
