Charles "Charlie" Duncan Lamont Croft of West LaHave, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2025 in South Shore Regional Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1955 and was a son of the late Gordon and Sadie (Naugler) Croft.
Charlie, in his younger years had a great love of boxing and was a Champion of the Maritimes. Even throughout his life, he always loved the sport.
Charlie tried many jobs when he was younger- he worked in the woods, picked tobacco, but it was in boating and fishing that he found his career. He started off cooking on the fishing boats, and spent many years fishing for National Sea, he fished out of NL and his final years out of Sambro. He had his Masters 1st Class Captains ticket, was nominated by National Sea for the Governor Generals Award and ran his own company CDC Offshore Ventures with the Cape John. His company did surveys on fishing for the Canadian Government and was considered their expert. He was always willing to give a hand to another skipper. The last vessel he sailed on was Scotia Mariner.
Charlie was an avid boater even when he wasn’t working. He sailed his friend of 40 years, Dan LeBlanc’s boat, sailed with friends and family on the sea, and around the islands. Moshers Island was a favourite. He also enjoyed his poker nights. He had many adventures with his friends and will be remembered and missed by many. He had such a love for his grandchildren, he was always able to put smiles on their faces, and they always put one on his.
