
Kempton Donald Allen, known to many as D.K., passed away
peacefully on June 13, 2025 at the age of 85 years young. Born on
Corkum’s Island in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on January 4,
1940, he was the son of the late Mary (Allen) Hamilton and was raised
by his grandparent Henry and Eva Allen of Corkum’s Island.
He served 13 years, from 1957 to 1970 in the Royal Canadian Navy. In
1970, he opened his business, Provincial Hearing Aid Service in
Bridgewater and retired in 1997 after 27 years of service to the
public. He greatly enjoyed his time spent on the "Seamist",
sharing laughter and fun with his family and friends. Hunting and
fishing were also a great part of his life, as well as a "spark
plug" and his famous "foot foot" joke.
Over
the years, he was very active in his community. He was a Past
President and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 44 in
Chester, Life Member of the Chester Curling Club and Honorary Member
of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department as well as a member of the
Clarke Lodge #61 in Chester. He received the Heart of Gold award from
Air Canada in recognition of his outstanding contribution to his
community. He was an avid ticket seller for a number of organizations
and it was said that he could "sell ice to an Eskimo".
Kempton will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years,
Gerri (Geraldine Winters); daughter Joanne MacDonald (Chris); his
beautiful grandchildren, Thomas (Lauren), Ted (Amanda), Jared
(Shannon) and Katy (Nathan); half brother Paul Hamilton, and his
precious great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hayes and Carson. He was
predeceased by his beloved daughter MaryAnn Allen; grandparents Henry
and Eva Allen; mother Mary, and stepfather Edward Hamilton.
Memorial service and celebration of Kempton’s life will
be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44 in Chester, on Saturday
June 21 from 2-4pm. Interment to follow at Bayview Anglican Cemetery,
Lower Commons Road, Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital, 351 Llewellyn Royal
Canadian Sea Cadets, or charity of your choice.
