It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Lois Harlow (Parks), on Saturday, August 31, 2024 after a brief illness. She left this world peacefully with family by her side and a deep faith that comforted us all. Lois was born in Havelock, NB on September 11, 1931 to the late Victor Hamilton and Helen Bernice (Lawson) Parks. She took great joy in the fact that she shared her birthday with her grandson, Ethan. Lois was Daddy’s little girl and she regularly walked to meet her father at the sawmill after he finished work. She was devastated by his death when she was only 26. Lois graduated as a registered nurse from Saint John General Hospital in 1953. She had always wanted to be a nurse and she gave patients comfort with compassion and dedication. She began her medical career at Moncton Hospital and received her Diploma in Public Health from Dalhousie University in 1957. She had a long career in nursing which included time with the VON, public health, and Surf Lodge, ending her career at Roseway Manor. It was during her time with the VON in Lockeport that she met Clifford, the love of her life. They married in 1960 and, shortly thereafter, moved to Prince Rupert where Clifford worked in the commercial fishery and Lois worked at the general hospital. Missing home, they returned to Sable River where they spent most of their married life. Lois enjoyed raising their three boys, dancing with Clifford, and a highlight of their marriage was a Caribbean Cruise to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Lois was a lifelong church member, being baptized in the United Church in Havelock, and later a member of the Baptist Church in Sable River and then Bridgewater after their move in 1998. She attended her churches regularly and enjoyed being part of the choirs, bible study groups, and was known for her delicious oatmeal cookies and rolls. After Clifford’s death in 2009, she became an avid Blue Jays fan. She rarely missed watching a game on tv or her iPad and could tell you the names of the players. Lois also loved her book club meetings. She always had a book by her side and finished at least one novel a week. Friends were very important to her and she was diligent to remain in touch with them, even a few from childhood. This wife, mother, grandmother, GrammieGreat, and friend was independent and lived life on her terms. She loved her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Lois is survived by her sons Franklyn Alexander (Kelly), Halifax; Victor Ralston (Lynne), Bridgewater; Paul Chadsey (Deanna), Crescent Beach; brother Clifford Herbert (Laurena) Parks, Riverview, NB; grandchildren Jennifer, Allison, Alex, Brian, Jessie, Hannah, Emma, Ethan, Cael; step-grandchildren Stephanie and Matthew; great grandchildren Mia, Gavin, Logan, Ruby, Reiker, Freya, Boyd, Rory, Henry, Baker, and Veronica; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Bridgewater Baptist Church, with Rev. John Wilton officiating. The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person.  The link to the service can be found by going to the church website, http://www.bridgewaterbaptist.com/, and clicking on the big Youtube logo.  The livestream will go live around 10:50 am. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on the same day at the Sable River Baptist Church Hillside Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Lois’ memory may be made to the Bridgewater Baptist Church or the Margaret Hennigar Public Library.
