MACKAY, Donald Elwood "Donnie"
November 27, 1934 – November 30, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce Donnie’s peaceful passing of Pleasant River, at the age of 89 on November 30th, 2023.
Born and raised in Hemford, he was the son of the late Frank and Hilda (Crouse) MacKay.  Loving husband to Leverne (née Selig) of Pleasant River, for 62 years.  Beloved father of Sherry (Terry) Darling, Vickey (Jeff Smith) MacKay, Ken (Lisa) MacKay and Tina (Kirk) Watson.  Much-loved grandfather of Angela, Shayne, Melissa, Katlyn, Kyle, Jake, Riley, Alexander, Garret and Samantha.  Doting great-grandfather of six. Donnie is survived by sister, Beulah (Marcel) Turner and predeceased by brother Elvin MacKay, and sisters Arlene MacKay, Shirley Crouse and Daisy (Frank) Meisner.
Donnie was a quiet, strong and patient man, sharing his mechanical and handy-man skills in the community.  Always a hard worker, he worked in construction and in the woods at the lumber camps.  After getting his certificate, he worked as a mechanic at various garages but most notably in Baker Settlement and as an oiler at Michelin Tires, Bridgewater.  Donnie was an avid woodsman and loved going to the family camp to work in the woods, hunt and fish.  On the farm, he raised a variety of animals, grew his own vegetables and worked with his treasured steers.  Friends and family would describe him as obstinate; he held doggedly on to his sentiments but friends were cherished and he would do anything for them. He had a magical way of calming babies that always impressed his family.
Visitation will be at the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, NS on Wednesday, December 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Private family interment to follow on December 7th at the LakeView Cemetery in Pleasant River.
Immediate family flowers only.  Memorial donations may be made to the SHAID Animal Shelter,  Lakeview Cemetery, Pleasant River or a charity of your choice. Online condolences and shared memories may be left for the family by visiting:
