John Angus MacLean, age 86 of Bridgewater, passed away on October 22, 2023 at Camphill Hospital, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Daniel Joseph and Sadie (Caswell) MacLean.

After graduating from high school, John joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he remained for 15 years. When living in PEI, with a wife and 4 small children, it was decided that it was time for a new adventure, so his family headed to Vancouver (by car) for a job with Vancouver Parks Board. Several years later they moved back to Nova Scotia where John was employed with Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission, moving to the South Shore in Bridgewater 50 years ago.

John always liked helping others by volunteering. He volunteered with Women’s Softball, coaching In Girls Basketball School, a Trustee on the School Board, teaching Sunday School, the Royal Canadian Legion, Boy Scouts, Canadian Red Cross, and the Canada Games. John worked in recreation all his life and he said " I have never been in a job that I didn’t like." When anyone needed something, John was always there to help, never saying no to anyone.

John is survived by his wife Donna (Swansburg); children, Ann MacLean, Timberlea, Michael (Carey) MacLean, Coldbrook, William (Heather) MacLean, Moncton, Theresa MacLean, Dartmouth, Catherine MacLean, Comox BC; grandchildren Aleah, Parker, Daniel, Gideon, Isaac, Levi, Connor, Dalton and Jessica; great grandchildren Lianna and Kalia; brother David (Dorine), Parley Beach NB, sister in-law Paula, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by brothers William, Frank; sisters Mary and Catherine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater.
Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday October 30 in St, Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Father Keith Billard officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, where on-line condolences may be made by visiting www.corkumfuneralhome.ca
