It is with sad hearts the family announces the passing of
Florence Marie Stevens at Shoreham Village, Chester, NS on March 14,
2023 at age 97. She was a daughter of the late Tracey and Maude
(Whynot) Walker.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother
and great grandmother.
Left to mourn her passing are
daughter Sandra Frank (Donald), son Brian (Sharon), grandchildren
Kelly Frank and Cory Stevens and great grandchildren Hailey and Evan
Stevens.
She is also survived by sister Barbara Nowe and
sister-in-law Jeanette Walker as well as several step grandchildren
and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her parents she
was predeceased by husband Owen and brothers Ralph and Spencer
Walker.
Marie spent most of her life in Middlewood where she was kept
busy raising her family. She especially enjoyed working alongside Owen
tending to outdoor projects including a large vegetable garden and
many shrubs and flowers. She was especially proud of her flower
gardens and enjoyed the many visitors who couldn’t resist
stopping by for a tour. More often than not they would leave with some
seeds or a cutting for their own flower beds. A well stocked goldfish
pond was also an attraction for many visitors. Feeding the fish was a
nightly ritual for Marie.
Many fun filled days were spent
during the summer at their Crooked Lake property where lake
neighbours, family and friends were always welcomed and entertained.
After Owen passed Marie was able to remain in her own home until into
her nineties with a bit of support from family, but mostly under her
own steam. She may be gone but will always remain in our
hearts.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff
at South Shore Regional Hospital for the care extended to Marie. Also
a heartfelt thanks to the Care Workers at Shoreham Village, especially
Barb for the compassion and respect shown to her. Even though her stay
there was short we are grateful and appreciative that she was well
cared for and comfortable.
Also a special Thank You to
Krista and Staff at R.A. Corkum Funeral Home. Your care and guidance
are very much appreciated.
As per Marie’s wishes
there will be no visitation or service. The body has been cremated and
a Private family interment will take place at a later date. If you are
able and wish to do so, a donation may be made to Italy
Cross/Middlewood Fire Department of a charity of your choice.
