Aubrey Allan Fraser (Al), Bridgewater ,NS passed away at home February 28, 2023 surrounded by love at 81 years of age.

Born in New Carlisle, Quebec on May 01, 1941 he was the fourth of eight children and the oldest son of Alfred Fraser and Corinne Rail.

He is survived by his wife Madeleine (Langlois), children Lise (Brad), Conquerall Mills, NS, Dean (Leigh-Anne), Mission, BC and Michael (Paula), Ottawa, Ontario.

He was so very proud of his five grandsons – Braeden (Halifax,NS), Ian (Miramichi, NB), Mitchell (Kingston, Ont), Evan (Ottawa, Ont) and Philipp (Germany).

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Doreen Wellman and brother Donald Fraser.

Entering military service at the age of 17, he proudly served our country for 22 years. After retirement in 1979 from the Canadian Armed Forces, Aubrey changed hats, managing grocery stores in Cornwallis, Digby and Yarmouth, where he and Madeleine owned their own store for 10 years.

July, 2005 they officially retired and moved to Bridgewater, NS. He loved to play hockey in his younger years, fish, golf, camp, was an avid hockey fan cheering for the Canadiens, cheated at crib and always hoped he could beat his wife at Scrabble ( he never did!)

There will be no funeral service as per Aubrey’s wishes. There will be a private celebration of life in the next few months with final internment in New Carlisle, Quebec at a later date.

Donations may be made in Aubrey’s memory to Soul’s Harbour, Bridgewater.

We would like to thank the Palliative Care team, especially Kim and Dr. Camille Munroe for their extraordinary care, empathy and support, the entire VON staff for their weekly visits, especially Morgan and Mary-Ann for their kindness, caring and assistance during his final days. Sincere appreciation to Cheryl Soroka, the Bridgewater Legion Branch 24 and Veteran’s Affairs Canada for their assistance and especially to Dr. Neil DuToit for giving Aubrey seven great years after his initial diagnosis for which we are eternally grateful.
