With deep sorrow we share the passing of our Dad, Charles
Anthony McNamara, (April 2, 1925 - June 7, 2022), born and raised in
Evanston, Cape Breton, son of Stanley Joseph McNamara and Mary
Esther(Perry), both deceased.
He was also predeceased by
his loving wife Mary Theresa(Cogswell), his brothers Gordon and Joseph
and great grand daughter Kinsley. He is survived by his sisters Marie
and Anita and his six children, Rosina (Medd), Yvonne, Charlie, Carol
Ann (Guertin), Gerry and Cathy (Delaney). He is also survived by 13
grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A veteran of 30 years service in the RCAF, he had some very
colourful and interesting stories to tell, especially of the war
years.
After his retirement from service, he operated a
small store and gas pumps in Beaver Bank, then moved to the Upper
Lahave in 1985.
Dad was a mechanic who loved working on any
vehicle, big or small (as kids, Mom always asked if we were in the
garage while he was working, as our language skills would develop some
interesting twists) and a bit of a prankster especially if he had a
camera in hand, or if there was a cup of tea and some peas near at
hand you never knew what was going to be next! He also looked forward
to the fall hunting season for a chance to bag a big
buck.
Sincere thanks go out to Dr. Conrad and the entire staff of the Veterans Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg for their care and concern, and to Andy, a volunteer from the Canadian Legion who came to visit and play pool with our Dad regularly.
We will say our final goodbyes to our Dad, per his wishes,
when we lay him to rest beside our Mom at a graveside service at St.
Patrick’s Church Cemetery in Whiteside, Cape Breton, Wed.
August 3rd at 1pm.
