Helen Claudette Herman, currently a resident of Greenfield NS, passed away on Friday Dec. 31. All her family was with her and she passed peacefully.
Helen was born in Montreal, Quebec to parents Ovila & Cecile Tessier. She had 3 sisters, Michelin (Mich), Giselle (Gigi) and Madeline (Mado). Madeline remains the only surviving sister. Helen met her husband-to-be Alex in 1965 while she was working at Canadian Aviation Electronics (CAE) Ltd in Montreal while Alex was there on a summer job from University. Alex left CAE to go back to school in Sept. and there was no way he was going lose his chance to be with this beautiful gal with a beautiful smile - so he asked her out. The rest is history - they married in 1967 and moved to Kingston Ont. for 5 yrs, Guelph for 2, and finally settled in Nova Scotia in 1974 where they stayed. From their 1st meeting - Helen & Alex were soul-mates for 57 yrs.
The 1st daughter Nadine was born in 1972 in Guelph, then Denise in 1976 in Halifax and finally Christine in 1980 also in Halifax. While Helen was mostly a stay-at-home Mom while her 3 kids were growing up - she did love going back to work occasionally as a Secretary for short stretches as it provided her a break from child-rearing. When her children became more independent, Helen went back to work on a more permanent basis and her last job at St. Mary’s Univ. was the one she enjoyed greatly. Her last job before retirement was as an Administrator of the Metropolis Program at St. Mary’s.
Helen loved living at their home at Little Ponhook Lake - & loved her summers at Ponhook, gardening, swimming, hosting potlucks, parties, pig roasts at their home and finally socializing with her many friends. Everyone who met Helen instantly got to experience her caring and sweet personality - her friendship, like her marriage, was for life. We miss her so much.
There will be no service for Helen - instead her family will host her ‘Celebration of Life’ this summer at our Ponhook Home. Announcements will be sent out.
