Sarah "Sadie" Gibson (nee Stewart), 93, of
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2021. Her
Irish spirit and spunk will be greatly missed by all who knew
her.
Sadie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on March
22, 1928, the daughter to Mary and Alexander Stewart. She married Bill
in 1955, and as newlyweds, they emigrated to Canada in 1956. They
settled and lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Bill built his
business. They were founding members of Westwood Presbyterian Church
in Winnipeg, and enjoyed many years of membership with the Winnipeg
Irish Association.
Sadie joined her daughter and family in
Nova Scotia after Bill’s passing in 1998. She enjoyed living
on the South Shore, and being fully involved in her
grandson’s lives. She was a loving and devoted grandmother
right from the day they were born. Sadie was a member of the
Bridgewater United Church, and enjoyed bowling with the
ladies’ league in Bridgewater.
Sadie is survived
by her loving daughter, Sharon (Dave) Mitchell, Blockhouse, NS, and
grandsons, Ryan Mitchell, Halifax, NS and Matthew Mitchell,
Blockhouse, NS. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years,
William "Bill" Gibson, and brother Alex Stewart.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the
wonderful care Sadie received while living at Ryan Hall these last
five years. Their support and kindness will never be forgotten by
Sadie’s family.
Cremation has taken place and a
private family gathering will be held to remember her. Arrangements
are under the care of the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville,
NS.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
