SLAUENWHITE, Bruce LeRoy - Branch Lahave. It is with broken hearts that the family of Bruce LeRoy Slauenwhite, 63 of Branch Lahave, announce his passing on Friday September 26, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Russell and Lillian (Zwicker) Slauenwhite. Bruce started his 42 year scallop fishing career at the age of 15. Most of those years were spent as Captain or Mate. He also enjoyed working at Harris Turners Christmas Tree yard when the boats were tied up. Bruce had a tough exterior but a heart of gold, always willing to lend a hand or give the shirt off his back if needed. Over the past eight years, Bruce has been a huge supporter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, raising thousands of dollars for Bowl for Kids. This also helped fulfill his love of socializing. Bruce will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Marcia; daughters Amy Slauenwhite (Kirk Knickle), Amanda (Jacob) Ward; four loved grandchildren: Stacey, Sarah, and Kerry Knickle, Amber Ward. Also, his two special kitties, Cricket and Gracie. The third of 8 B’s, he also leaves to grieve, sisters: Betty Daniels, Barbara (Rickey) Kelly, Brenda (Kevin) Garber, Belinda Slauenwhite (Derrick Thompson), Beth (Mike) Hupman; brothers Byron and Barry (Margaret). Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by brothers-in-law Oran Crouse, James Daniels; nephews Jamie Daniels, Robert Slauenwhite and his beloved cat Louie. There will be no visitation by Bruce’s request. Memorial Service to Celebrate Bruce’s life will be held 11:00am Saturday October 18, 2014 in St. Jame’s Lutheran Church, Branch Lahave, Rev Catharine House Officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial Donations may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. St. Jame’s Lutheran Church, or the Charity of your choice.
