WENTZELL, Hector Herman, died peacefully on Monday, April 9th, 2018, at home in Midville Branch, NS, with his wife at his side. Born in Midville Branch, March 28th, 1938, he was the son of the late Herman and Mildred (Arenburg) Wentzell. Hector is survived by the children of his first marriage; Troy (Dawn), Midville Branch, and their sons Travis, Montreal QC, Devyn, at home; Natalie (Sheldon Sampson), Dartmouth; Noel (Theressa), step-daughter Jillian MacInnes, Oakhill; his wife of 23 years, Kimberly Jarvis; step-sons Joshua Hirtle (Lise Thibodeau), his sons András and Lukács; and Daniel Hirtle, Summerside, PE. Also, brother, Mylon (Rosetta), Oshawa, ON; sister, Mercedes Veinot (Roy), Stayner, ON; nieces Rhonda and Darlene, nephew Sheldon; numerous grand-nieces and nephews, many cousins. Hector was predeceased by his parents, sister Janet, brother Lindsay (stillborn), nephew Blair. Employed for 39 years with Calvin L. Snyder Ltd., Hector was a master mechanic for Arctic Cat and Mercury Marine, having the reputation of being the best small-engine mechanic in Canada. Declining health forced his retirement in 1998. He was a founding member of the Midville & District Volunteer Fire Department and 20-year member of Lunenburg County Ground Search and Rescue. Despite numerous serious health problems, Hector was always optimistic, making the best of his circumstances. He enjoyed spending time at the Bridgewater Mall, walking and chatting with numerous friends over coffee. He was great story teller and an encouragement to those he encountered. His favourite saying was "Keep your chin up and keep smiling". He loved working in the woods. Cutting firewood and logs were tasks that gave him great pleasure. Cremation has taken place under the direction of R. A. Corkum Funeral Home. Private family interment of ashes at a later date. Celebration of life gathering will be held at the Midville & District Fire Hall, Saturday, May 5th, 2018, from 3 to 7 pm. Donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of choice.
