John Louis BUTLER CD
BUTLER, John Louis CD, 88, of Bridgewater NS, passed away on July 9, 2010 In South Shore Regional Hosptial, Bridgewater. Born in Chatham, Kent, England, to Clarisse Marina and John Walter Butler on 18 January 1922. He is survived by a younger brother Leo and sister Jean (UK) and half-brothers Joe (UK) and Terry (Australia). On 15 Jun 1937 he enlisted as a Boy Gunner in the Royal Artillery (Territorials) until he joined the Royal West Kent Regiment in Nov of 1938. He went with the BEF to France and was evacuated from Dunkirk in Jun 1940. After a brief stay in UK he went with 3rd Army Corps to Middle East, a tour covering Iran, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, N. Africa, and then the Dodecanese Islands. He ended up in Italy with the East Surrey Regiment. In Canada he served with the Royal Canadian Engineers Militia, where he was awarded The Canadian Forces Decoration, and in 1967 The Centennial Medal. After the War, in 1947 he married Vicki (Betty Victoria Sainsbury) of Rainham, Kent, England and they had three children, Jacqueline, Jonathan Paul, and Timothy David, before immigrating to Canada. Their two other children Christopher Mark and Victoria Marina were born in Nova Scotia. Sadly, Jonathan and Timothy are deceased. Cremation has taken place under the Direction of the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville and there will be no service at his request. Memorial Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
