MAILMAN, Charles E. “Joe” “Joey”- 63 of Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, passed away June 6, 2009 after a courageous lengthy battle with cancer. Born and raised in Bridgewater, he was the son of the Late Frances (Morgan) and Laurie Mailman.

Joey was retired from the Department of Transportation where he had been employed for almost 30 years as a Regional Traffic Supervisor and Traffic Authority for the province of Nova Scotia. He spent many years referring hockey along the South Shore as well as the Valley and Yarmouth areas. Joey was a tireless volunteer for his community and was recognized for his dedication in 1993 where he received the Provincial Volunteer Award and also the Commemorative medal from the Governor General of Canada. In his early years, Joey was a member of the Lions Club, founding member of S.H.A.I.D, dedicated member of the Bridgewater Golf and Country Club where he served on many committees and also served as President of the club. For 10 years, he was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Bridgewater Minor Baseball Association and also president of the South Shore Video Group, where he and the group produced over a thousand videos for cable T.V. showcasing events and talent in the local community. Later Joey helped his wife raise thousands of dollars for their fight against cancer.

He is survived by his wife Sandra (Ringer) and sons Christopher and Ryan (Brianne), Bridgewater. Also surviving are his brother Tom (Linda), Bridgewater, and Nieces, Nephews, Aunts and Uncles. The family will receive friends from 7-9pm Monday in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, and where a Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held 2:00pm Tuesday. Reverend Willis Ott Officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at the Kinsmen Hall on King Street in Bridgewater. Family Flowers only.
